Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, how Branel Journal ("Branel", "the publication", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares information connected with this website, its correspondence channels, and its editorial operations. It is intended to give readers in Indonesia and elsewhere a clear picture of what happens to information they share with us and what choices are available to them.

1. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to the website operated at branel.info, including the homepage, article pages, the about and methodology pages, and the contact form. It covers information gathered when a page is requested by a browser, information voluntarily submitted through the contact form, and any correspondence sent to the email address or postal address listed in the footer of this website. It does not apply to third-party websites that Branel may link to in its articles, since those sites operate under their own privacy practices. Readers who follow an outbound link are encouraged to review the privacy notice published by that destination before sharing any information there.

2. Data we collect

Branel collects a limited set of information in the ordinary course of operating an editorial website. When a page is requested, the hosting environment automatically records technical details such as the requesting IP address, browser type and version, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the request. When a reader submits the contact form, we receive the name, email address, and message content that the reader chooses to enter. Where a reader opts into analytics cookies through the consent banner, aggregated, non-identifying statistics about page views and general device category are also recorded. Branel does not ask visitors to submit government identification numbers, financial account details, or other sensitive categories of personal data through any form on this site, and we ask that correspondence sent to us avoid including such details as well.

3. Legal basis for processing

Indonesia's Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (commonly referred to as the UU PDP) sets out the framework Branel follows when handling personal data connected with this website. Where a reader submits the contact form, the applicable basis is the reader's own initiative and consent to that specific exchange, since the reader chooses what to write and voluntarily provides contact details for a reply. Where optional analytics cookies are enabled, the basis is the reader's consent, given through the cookie banner described in our separate Cookie Policy. Where technical server logs are created automatically to keep the website secure and operating correctly, the basis is Branel's legitimate interest in maintaining a functioning, secure publication. Branel does not rely on personal data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on any reader.

4. Retention periods

Branel keeps information only for as long as it serves the purpose for which it was collected, after which it is deleted or anonymised on a routine schedule. The table below sets out the concrete retention periods that apply to the categories of information described in Section 2.

Category of informationRetention periodReason for the period
Contact form submissions (name, email, message)24 months from the date of the last exchangeAllows follow-up correspondence and reference to earlier questions or corrections
Server access logs (IP address, browser, page requested)30 days on the primary serverSupports security monitoring and troubleshooting of technical faults
Aggregated, non-identifying analytics statisticsUp to 13 monthsAllows month-to-month and year-to-year comparison of readership trends
Records of a published correction or editorial amendmentRetained for the life of the article, alongside a dated notePreserves an accurate and traceable editorial record

Where a longer period is required to respond to a lawful request from a competent authority, or to document a dispute about editorial content, Branel may retain the relevant material for as long as that specific matter remains open, after which the standard periods above resume.

5. User rights and how to exercise them

Under the UU PDP framework and as a matter of general practice, readers may ask Branel to confirm what personal data we hold about them, to correct inaccurate details, to receive a copy of the information they have submitted, or to request that we delete correspondence that is no longer needed for the purposes described above. A reader may also withdraw consent for optional analytics cookies at any time by adjusting the choice in the cookie banner or by clearing cookies in their browser, without affecting the lawfulness of any processing carried out before that withdrawal. To exercise any of these rights, a reader may write to [email protected] or send a letter to the postal address in Section 9. We aim to acknowledge a rights request within five business days and to provide a substantive response within thirty calendar days; if a request is complex, we will explain the reason for any additional time needed. There is no charge for a first, reasonable request of this kind.

6. Third-party processors

Branel relies on a small number of external providers to keep the website running, and each of them processes information only to the extent needed to deliver their service. Our hosting and infrastructure provider stores the website files and processes the technical server logs described in Section 2 on servers that may be located outside Indonesia. Where optional analytics cookies are accepted, an analytics provider processes aggregated statistics about page views and general device category on our behalf, without receiving the reader's name or the content of any contact form message. Our email service provider transmits messages sent through the contact form to our editorial inbox. Each of these providers is contractually limited to using the information solely to deliver the service Branel has engaged them for, and none of them is authorised to use reader information for their own independent marketing purposes.

7. Cookies referenced in this policy

This website uses a small number of cookies, described in full detail in our separate Cookie Policy, which forms part of the overall approach to data protection described here. In summary, a session cookie supports basic page continuity, a consent cookie remembers the choice made in the cookie banner for 180 days, and an optional analytics cookie, active only after consent, supports aggregated readership statistics for up to 13 months. No cookie used on this website is used to build an individual advertising profile of a reader. Readers who wish to review or change their cookie choices at any time can do so through the "Cookie Settings" link available in the footer of every page.

8. International data transfers

Because Branel's hosting and analytics providers operate infrastructure in multiple locations, information described in this policy may be processed on servers located outside Indonesia, including in jurisdictions with differing data protection frameworks. Where such a transfer occurs, Branel selects providers that maintain documented security and confidentiality commitments in their service terms, and we review those commitments periodically as part of routine vendor management. Readers who would like more detail about the specific location of a particular provider's infrastructure may contact us using the details in Section 9, and we will share what information we are able to confirm.

9. Complaints and contact procedure

Any reader with a question, concern, or complaint about how their information has been handled may contact Branel's editorial office at [email protected], by telephone at +62 21 2184 7206 during office hours, or by post at Jalan MH Thamrin No. 1, 10340 Jakarta Pusat, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. We aim to acknowledge receipt of a complaint within five business days and to provide a full written response within thirty calendar days of receipt. If a reader is not satisfied with our response, they retain the right to raise the matter with the competent Indonesian data protection authority responsible for supervising compliance with the UU PDP.

10. Revision history

This policy is reviewed periodically to keep pace with changes in the website's technical setup and with developments in Indonesian data protection practice. The table below records the dated history of substantive revisions to this document; formatting or spelling corrections that do not change the meaning of a section are not separately logged.
